Many people has been complaining about the battery life on the iPhone 4S as I mentioned in my last review. Clearly there's something wrong with the device. There is a rumour that Apple is looking into this problem. However there are a few things you can do to extend your battery life on your own. I've gathered some info I found around the web and made a guide for you all.
Siri
Siri drains battery, sad but true. The best thing is to keep it turned off til you actually want to use it. I know it will get a bit complicated turning Siri on and off every time you want to use it but until Apple finds a solution for the battery problem it's recommended to do so. Go to Settings >> General >> Siri
Ping
Ping needs to be turned off. It communicates with Itunes and drains some power.
Go to Settings >> General >> Restrictions.
Push
Turning off Push for your E-Mail will also save you some power. It's way better if you check your mail manually instead of the letting your iPhone checking it frequently.
Go to Settings >> Mail, contacts >> Fetch new data.
Apps
Many of us forget about all the apps running in the background. Once you open an app and exit it, it usually stays in the background. This will drain power. Double click the home button and choose the app to be closed. Hold your finger on the icon and then click it once again to close it.
Location services
Location services uses the GPS to pinpoint your location. If that service is on it goes without saying that it will drain your battery, Only use Location Services when you absolutely need it.
Go to Settings >> Location Services.
Bluetooth
You need to keep the Bluetooth off. If you don't it will continuously look for other Bluetooth devices nearby. Turn on the Bluetooth only when you really need it.
Go to Settings >> General >> Bluetooth.
Notifications
Choose wisely which notifications you want to be sent to you. You do not need the mail notification if you going to check it manually.
Go to Settings >> Notifications.
Time Zone
Probably the most important thing to do for extend battery life is to disable the Time Zone setting. Several reports say that this is the main reason that the battery is so weak. The Time Zone is updating where ever you go, all the time. Turn it off at once. I don't now if this concerns the iPhone 4 with IOS5 but it certainly affect the iPhone 4S users.
Go to Settings >> Location Services >> System Services.
This should give your device a boost and extend the battery life. I've already noticed a huge difference using these settings.Try it out guys and leave a comment if it works. Join my Facebook group "Noyas Gadgets". Good luck!!
Fantastic, I bought a phone for 7.000 sek and now I have to turn everything that makes it a smartphone off.... Nice work Apple!
ReplyDeleteI know it's so frustrating. But turning off the Time Zone will give you a lot more power. I've noticed a huge difference. Let us just hope that Apple will solve this problem very soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks, great post! You seem like a iphoneknower...u know of any app to iphone that is free and for navigation with gps, lika googlemaps that android uses????
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment! I've been using Navigon over the years when it comes to navigation but it's really expensive. I found a neat little app called GPS Nav 2. It's very cheap and i'm actually testing it right now for a review on my site, so stay tuned.
