The TC Electronic Desktop Konnekt 6 is a FireWire audio interface/monitor controller with 24-bit/192kHz sampling rate, 1x mic input, 48V phantom thomann power, 2x instrument or 2x line inputs (switchable), 2x balanced line outputs, headphone output, monitor controller with level meter.
I was thinking of reviving my music career I once had and I needed a new audio interface since my old Edirol UA-25 broke down recently. After carefully searching the interwebs I found The TC Electronic Desktop Konnekt 6. I made the review with my ESI nEar 08 studio monitors and here are my thoughts:
The Good
The sound quality. I'm completely stunned by it's quality!!! The TC Electronic Desktop Konnekt 6 makes my old Edirol interface sound like an old Soundblaster card from the 90's. With incredible detail and wide sound this interface is totally smashing!!
The construction. The TC Electronic Desktop Konnekt 6 is a quite large piece of work which I like a lot. It feels sturdy and got a nice weight into it.
The M40 Studio Reverb. Included is the M40 Studio Reverb, a simple to use, great sounding reverb. Beside being part of the monitor mix, the M40 Studio Reverb is also available as a natively running VST/AU plug-in, allowing you to use it as part of your recording session in your PC or Mac.
The Power supply. Compared to many other companies the TC Electronic does include an AC power adapter. Usually you have to buy it as an extra accessory.
The knobs and buttons. They feel great. Especially the volume knob which changed to more intense color (Red) the higher the volume it is.
The price. $189.99 or 1690SEK.
The Bad
No Midi interface. For you who uses midi this is a real bummer.
The firewire cord. It's to short. I wish that it would've been a bit longer. I had some problems connecting it to my computer.
Drivers. TC Electronics can be a bit sluggish when it comes to new drivers and updates. At the moment there are no drivers for OSX Lion.
Conclusion
The TC Electronic Desktop Konnekt 6 is a great audio interface especially if you often travel with your gear. Combined with a stunning sound quality and low price I just had to buy it. I really recommend this interface if you just starting out making music. I'm currently using FL Studio, Edirol PCR-M50 keyboard with The TC Electronic Desktop Konnekt 6 and it works great!
