The Vestax Typhoon is an all-in-one bundle of digital DJ hardware and software, offering total control to mix, scratch, and play music as a DJ would right at your fingertips. The included software Traktor DJ transforms your computer into a DJ system. Whether for the beginner or seasoned pros alike, plug Typhoon into your computer and you become a DJ. The Vestax Typhoon has a built in soundcard which means you won't need to setup 2 soundcard on your computer in order for it to work. Here are my thoughts:
The Good
Compact and Light. Completely travel friendly, the unit is perfect for users on-the-go. A simple USB cable and bundled software will have the user spinning wherever they please.
Touch Sensor Jog Wheels. High resolution, touch-sensitive jog wheels enable the user to DJ like in analog mode when scratching or mixing.
The buttons and sliders. They feel great. Perfect resistance when you're pressing them and sliding them up and down.
The track selector. There's a controller which you can use to select tracks from the playlist and load the bays. If you look at the picture above, it's the white cross that looks like a cross from a computer game controller. This is really great. You won't need a mouse or a mouse pad for selecting tracks.
Built in soundcard. It has a nice sound quality and you don't have to buy 2 soundcards for your computer in order for it to work. That can get a bit expensive.
Operates with both Mac and Windows systems. ASIO driver for operation with Windows.
Reasonable price. $299.99 or 2500SEK.
The Bad
The Software. It comes with the Traktor DJ software which is great. However, only the light edition is included which is heavily stripped from the original version. Recording your mixes won't work and only 3 effects is included in the Traktor LE version. I actually bought the full version because Traktor is a great DJ software if not the best. I've read that Traktor is becoming the digital DJ standard, so for me it was a no brainer.
Cables. No audio cables are included nor an AC adapter. Only a USB cable comes with the Vestax Typhoon. It will work using only the USB cable. I however have had some bad experiences with USB driven mixers before. Some laptops doesn't provide enough power so the mixers works kinda bad. I haven't had any problem yet though using my MacBook Air.
Installation. It's a bit tricky installing it. It took me a while to get it up and running.
The construction. It's quite light and built with plastic so you won't feel much weight. This can be a bit of a drag because when using a mixer you want to a have a sturdy piece.
Conclusion
The Vestax Typhoon is a really cool device. It's perfect for newbies who want to start DJing. The size is great if you want to bring it along to a house party to show of your skills, which is pretty nice. I certainly recommend the Vestax Typhoon if your just starting out and are curious of DJing. However if your a Pro DJ, you might wanna check out something else that's more suitable. Don't miss the youtube clip down below.
Score 7 out of 10
